GRILLIN’ ON THE TRAIL

 

Contest Information

  1. Grillin’ on the Trail is a sanctioned competition by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS). All KCBS rules and regulations will be adhered to.

  2. Grillin’ on the Trail will be held at Council Oak Park, 108 E Main St, Council Grove KS. Check-in will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 with the contest on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Judging will begin at 12:30 p.m. Teams are limited to the first 25 registrations.

  3. Contest fee is $150.00 through August 5, 2021. After August 5, 2021 contest fee is $175.00.

  4. Full payment must be made at the time your registration is submitted.  Neither payment or application is transferrable to another team.

  5. Grillin’ on the Trail will be held rain or shine.  No refunds will be given.

  6. Entry fee is for a 20X30 foot space. A second 20X30 space can be purchased for an additional $75.00.  Include additional fee with your registration form and make note on the bottom of the form. The BBQ area is a grassy park.

  7. Checks and money orders should be made to Grillin’ on the Trail/SFT 200 and mailed to Sharmon Richardson, 225 N Belfry, Council Grove KS 66846.  No credit card payment option is available.

  8. Limited electricity will be available.  This is 110-volt service.  You will need to supply your own extension cord (distance to supply may be up to 200 feet).  Available to the first 16 requestors. You will need to bring your own generator if you need 30A or greater supply for an RV.

  9. Water will be available at a central source.  No water hookups for RVs is available.

  10. There will be a separate parking area available for additional vehicles outside the BBQ area.  No vehicles will be able to leave the BBQ area after check-in to the competition.

  11. BBQ teams will keep their space clean of litter and trash throughout the competition. Teams will need to dispose of their trash on a regular basis in the dumpster provided.

  12. Space will be reserved on a first come/first serve fashion. Team location will be assigned at check-in.  Teams will receive any additional information necessary via email including a map of the BBQ site and directions for entrance to the site for check-in at least a week before the competition.

  13. Competition will be in four categories: pork ribs, chicken, pork, and brisket.  Cash prizes for overall champion, overall reserve champion, and top five in each category will be awarded.  Trophies will be awarded to champion and reserve champion overall and each category winner. 

  14. Grillin’ on the Trail is being held in conjunction with events commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail by Santa Fe Trail 200.  A Military on the Santa Fe Trail event will be held in Council Oak Park at the same time as the BBQ contest.

  15. Alcoholic beverages are allowed in confines of individual designated spaces for teams only.  All city & state liquor laws will be adhered to by teams and guests and will be enforced by city law enforcement.

  16. The Santa Fe Trail 200, Grillin’ on the Trail, Heart of the Flint Hills Chapter SFTA, Council Grove Christian Church, and the City of Council Grove are not responsible for any lost, damage, or stolen items; or not responsible for accidents, injury, or illness.

  17. All BBQ team members and guests who submit their registration agree to abide by the regulations and information as set forth in this document.
